About Ricky Fishman
Dr. Ricky Fishman has been a Doctor of Chiropractic since 1986, and the Co-Director of Chiromedica, a holistic health care center, since 1988. As a leader in the field of integral healing, he has brought together and assimilated the work of chiropractors, medical doctors, acupuncturists, nurse practitioners, psychologists, physical therapists and massage therapists. His Philosophy of Treatment addresses the whole being of each person. To support Dr. Fishman’s practice and philosophy, he has created a new health news and information website, “Condition: Health News That Matters”.
In addition, he works within industrial settings, as both a staff chiropractor at the Emeryville Occupational Medical Center and as a member of integrative teams that provide on-site care to companies around the Bay. This work has led him to develop and staff Onsite Health and Wellness Programs for companies dedicated to the wellbeing of their work force.
Dr. Fishman is also an electric bass player who has performed with Bay Area bands since the punk rock days of 1970’s San Francisco. As a result, he has a special interest in treating musicians and other performing artists. This evolved into the Musicians Chiropractic Project, a program that is dedicated to the specific health needs of working artists.
To complement his clinical work, Dr. Fishman is a college professor. He taught for over twenty years at New College of California where his courses included “Contemporary Health Studies”, “Power, Politics, and Healing”, “Scientific Reasoning” and many others. He currently teaches “Complementary and Integrative Medicine” in the Integrative Health Studies MA program at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. To learn more about his academic work, visit his blog Ricky’s Riffs where he has posted over fifty articles that critique and explore the history, philosophy and politics of health and healing.
And from 1986-2002, Dr. Fishman worked as the staff chiropractor for the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic, where he participated as part of a broad based group of health care providers, working to deliver services to the uninsured population of San Francisco.
